Psalms 12

God, a Helper against the Treacherous.

For the music director;
Or according to a lower octave (Heb Sheminith)
upon an eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm of David.

1 Help, Lord, for bthe godly person has come to an end,
For the faithful have disappeared from the sons of mankind.
2 They cspeak
Lit worthless speech
lies to one another;
They speak with
Lit a smooth lip
,
fflattering lips and a double heart.
3 May the Lord cut off all
Lit a smooth lip
flattering lips,
The tongue that hspeaks great things;
4 Who ihave said, “With our tongue we will prevail;
Our lips are
Lit with us
our own; who is lord over us?”
5 “Because of the kdevastation of the poor, because of the groaning of the needy,
Now lI will arise,” says the Lord; “I will mput him in the safety for which he longs.”

6 The nwords of the Lord are pure words;
Like silver orefined in a furnace on the ground, filtered seven times.
7 You, Lord, will keep them;
You will pprotect him from this generation forever.
8 The qwicked strut about on every side
When
Or worthlessness
,
svileness is exalted among the sons of mankind.
